  • Magnetic breakaway cord
KitchenFaction Rating

Construction: The Oster fondue pot has a  titanium infused, DuraCeramic coating that makes the pot non-stick and lasts, according to Oster, 8 times longer than regular non-stick coatings. It also, according to the manufacturer, cooks up to 30% faster. The surface is PFOA- and PTFE- free. The exterior is a pretty combination of red and black that will grace your table well. The fondue pot is electric, with a magnetic breakaway cord that will prevent any horrible accidents as it will come away from the socket rather than drag the pot every which way in case someone trips over the cord.

Usage: This electric fondue pot has an adjustable and removable temperature control, making for convenient usage. It can heat up to 400 F so all of your fondue-related needs will be taken care of by this bad boy. It comes with 8 forks, all of which have ends of different colors so they don’t mix up and everyone knows which fork is whose. There is also a fork-holder ring that makes sure your forks stay neatly in place. The pot is 3 quarts in size, which is a pretty big capacity for a fondue pot. You can use it for cheese, chocolate, broth, meat… you name it.

Cleaning & Maintenance: Since the pot has a non-stick coating, it’s very easy to clean it. All you have to do is wipe it down properly and thoroughly before putting it away. Also, since the non-stick coating isn’t Teflon, you don’t have to worry about scratching it away.  Don’t immerse it in water, which kind of goes without saying.

Pros
  • DuraCeramic non-stick interior
  • Large capacity excellent for parties
  • Comes with 8, different-colored forks
  • Safety of a magnetic breakaway cord
Cons
  • Plastic fork-holder may bend due to heat

Construction: This high-end fondue pot is traditional and is made out of iron. The pot itself is cast-iron while the rest of the construction is wrought iron. Apart from the pot, the set contains a rechaud (the stand), a burner with a swiss fire gel container and six forks. In addition to black enamel, this set is also available in blue and red enamel so you can get whatever color goes with your decor. The interior is a cream-white for all the pots.

Usage: This cast-iron pot is safe to be used on all heat sources so that will save you the effort of cooking up the fondue in another pot and then transferring to this one. The enameled surface provides even heating. It has a large, 2-quart capacity and can be used for both low and high temperatures. The forks that come with it have three prongs so your fruit or bread won’t keep falling off, and have wooden handles. The handle of the pot gets warm but not hot enough that you can’t move the pot around.

Cleaning & Maintenance: The enameled surface of the pot allows it to be cleaned quite easily. It is better that you clean the pot and its attachments by hand, with warm, soapy water rather than put them in the dishwasher. Dry them well before putting the set away as you don’t want it to rust.

Pros
  • Iron construction
  • Traditional
  • Comes in three colors
  • 6 forks
  • Enameled non-stick
  • Easy to clean
Cons
  • Heavy
  • Stand might slip

4

Construction: The Zen Kitchen fondue set is made of cast-iron and glazed with ceramic. It has a heart-shaped fondue pot and a base where you can put one or two tea lights to keep your fondue good and hot. The set includes 6 small heart-shaped bowls as well, which are great for meat, pretzels, fruit, bread, etc. There are also 6 forks with the set, with colored handles for differentiation… a welcome addition in this great value set.

Usage: The manufacturers advise for a heat source stronger than tea lights to be avoided as the pot is only meant to keep the fondue hot and not for actual cooking. Basically, it’s a ‘warmer’. So just pop one or two tea lights in the stand and you’re good to go. The fondue pot will keep your cheese, chocolate, broth, etc. evenly hot. It has a capacity of 26 ounces which is great for a party of 2 to 3 people. The set comes gift-wrapped and makes for a wonderful present because who doesn’t like fondue?

Cleaning & Maintenance: The Zen Kitchen fondue pot set is really easy to clean as nothing sticks to the ceramic. Also, it is dishwasher-safe so you don’t have to worry about clean-up in any case. There isn’t a power-cord so you don’t have to take care that no one trips over it and smashes the thing to pieces. This is one great buy!

Construction: The Swissmar fondue mug set is a set of 4 pieces. It has a mug, two forks, and a tea light as well. The mug is made of ceramic and it has a small, hollowed area in the base where you place the tea light that keeps the fondue hot and yummy. It’s not very big, as a lot of space is taken up by the space for the tea light, so it’s only good for single-person use.

Usage: This one-person, traditional-style mug is great if you want to grab a snack at any time of the day. This is safe to be used in the microwave, in the oven, and with tea lights. For a better fondue, you should make it beforehand and then transfer it to your cup. You can use the tea light to keep it hot and smooth, but melting it on a double-boiler or in the microwave will result in a better-quality fondue. Comes in a gift box, so makes a great present.

Cleaning & Maintenance: This mug is really easy to clean. The chocolate won’t stick to it but even so, you can just pop it in the dishwasher whenever you want. The mug is ceramic so you need to be a tad careful because dropping it will most likely result in breakage.

Pros
  • Great for single-person serving
  • Uses tea light
  • Microwave-safe
  • Dishwasher-safe
  • 2 forks

Things to look for before buying!

A fondue pot is something that livens up any dinner setting, be it with just a few friends or a full-blown party. For that reason, you need to know exactly what you require from your appliance. If you don’t, you might end up a purchase you’ll regret.

When getting the best fondue pot, look for:

  • Capacity
  • Heat source
  • Material
  • Ease of use

Now, let’s go into the nitty-gritty of my picks.

Buying Guide

What you should know about fondue pots

Buying a fondue pot can appear to be the easiest thing in the world as all of them seem more or less the same. Still, there are things that will come to mind when you consider getting yourself a fondue pot. Let’s address those things so that you acquire a model according to your requirements, without any fear of making a specialty purchase that you might end up regretting.

Is a fondue pot really necessary?

So why does one need a fondue pot anyway? The thing is, a fondue pot is a specialized piece of equipment that allows you to have the perfect fondue, every time. Sure, you can make the fondue on a stove-top and pour it into a bowl, but it’ll get cold and thick and soon you’ll lose interest in a fondue that’s not very fondue-y anymore. Having the proper equipment will ensure that your fondue remains melted, hot, and runny enough for you to enjoy it thoroughly.

That’s why you absolutely need a fondue pot, especially if you are a person who does the whole fondue thing. It will make your life more delicious and be the star of your parties.

What else can you use your fondue pot for?

For the longest time, I thought that a fondue pot was only good for fondues. That was its only use in my eyes. Boy was I wrong. Turns out, you can use a fondue pot for reasons ranging from making soup to making your home smell good! You can use it to deep-fry food, to heat up or make soup, to make certain Asian dishes, to make a yummy air freshener for the house, to serve as an ice bucket and even to store things. This blog discusses 10 things you can do with your fondue pot that are absolutely not fondue-y.

What makes for a good fondue pot?

This is a solid question: what must a fondue pot have in order to be considered worth buying? Well, it’s a very subjective question. What’s best for you might not be so great for someone else. You might need a fondue pot to host huge parties, or you might need a small-ish one to take care of just you. In any case, a good fondue pot is one that heats well, is easy to clean, is capacious enough and you can have the best time ever with it.

Finding a good fondue pot

In order to find a great fondue pot for yourself, you need to ask yourself exactly what you are looking for. Do you just need a pot for your desserts and cheese, or do you intend to do some high-temperature cooking like meat fondues? In the case of meat fondues, you’ll need stainless steel or cast-iron pots as they can be heated to high temperatures safely and effectively. You need that kind of heating to bring the oil and stuff to the required temperature.

Chocolate and cheese fondues don’t require that much heat. They basically only require to be melted and not cooked, so ceramic pots can work well enough.

If you intend to host parties with your fondue pot as the show-stopper, then go for a large one like a 3-quart piece so you don’t have to constantly keep refilling it. If you want a pot just enough for 3-4 people then a medium-sized pot will work wonderfully. In addition to these, if you would like to have a pot that gives you just enough melted cheese or chocolate to satisfy your late-night cravings, you can totally splurge and buy a model for one as well.

Taking care of a fondue pot

Now that you’ve bought a fondue pot, the next step is to take good care of it so it lasts for years; you don’t want to have to buy a new fondue pot after a couple months.

Many fondue pots have detachable pieces that are easy enough to clean. Some even suggest you put the pieces in the dishwasher, which makes clean-up considerably easier. Many pots come with a ceramic enamel that makes the surface non-stick so all you have to do is wash gently with warm, soapy water and dry well.

And this is it. I’ve tried to cover all the fondue pots out there, so you should be able to make a decision and then have a superb party, where I’m sure your guests will enjoy your purchase a lot!
