Brita UltraMax filtering dispenser not only gets rid of the unpleasant taste and smell of chlorine but also brings down the concentration levels of copper, cadmium, and mercury in your drinking water. These elements can seriously affect your health. Brita filters, however, are your saviors as they are simple to use with wonderful features.

Construction: The pitchers and dispensers are made of BPA free plastic, more specifically GPPS (General Purpose Polystyrene). ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) plastic is used in the making of lids. The dispenser also consists of a spigot that allows you to pour the water in an easy way.

Function: The UltraMax water filter can hold 18 cups or 1.13 gallons of water. It is sufficient even for the needs of big households. The filter lessens the chlorine taste and smell. It also lowers the level of impurities such as copper, mercury, zinc, and cadmium. Although, these impurities may not be present in every user’s water.

Easy to use, clean and store: You need to wash your hands before handling your water filter for the first time. You should flush it with cold water for 15 seconds then insert the filter back into its place. After adding cold tap water in the filter for the first time, you need to discard it or you can water your plants or flower pots as the first dispenser of filtered water may contain carbon dust. You can add more water in it and start using it. You must replace the water filter within 2 months or after every 40 gallons of usage. The sticker on the dispenser allows you to keep track of time which enables you to know when you last changed the water present in the filter.

You can easily clean the water filter by washing it with hot, soapy water and then wipe with a soft sponge/cloth. Brita water filter is quite environmentally friendly as the filter reduces plastic waste by replacing 300 standard 16oz water bottles.  Moreover, it fits neatly on the countertops and doesn’t take much space in the refrigerator either.

Pros
  • BPA free plastic
  • Suitable for big households
  • Cleaner great tasting water
  • Fits on countertop & in refrigerator
  • Environment-friendly
  • Easy cleanup
Cons
  • Will leak if the seal isn't attached right

Why should you use a water filter pitcher?

There are many reasons for using a water filter pitcher in your home. The main reason is that it produces water free of contaminants and another reason is that tap water is usually not as clean as you may believe. It purifies water which may include bacteria, heavy metals, fungi and other harmful chemicals. It is an inexpensive solution to all your problems related to water contamination. All the water that you put into the pitcher, it filters it in a very small amount of time and voila!

When to change a filter in a water filter pitcher?

There are many brands of water filter pitchers and each brand has a different way of making it clear to its users how often they should change the filter. If your water is heavily contaminated then it would become necessary for you to change the filter more frequently. Although, it is always mentioned under the product description that you may need to change the filter every two months or 6 months even. But if the water is filtering slower than usual or taste starts to seem funny then surely it’s your cue to change the water filter.

Is tap water contaminated?

If you are one of those people who think that why you should believe in such stuff, please do consider what I am about to tell you as it is very crucial to your health. The tap water may seem to be clean but it includes all the contaminants which are invisible to the human eye. You might even be convinced that the water plant provides you clean and clear water and doing a perfect job but the way the water travels through different pipes from the water treatment plant to your house allows it to gather contaminants along the way.

Does lead get into the water?

According to the EPA and CDC, there is no safe level of lead in a child’s blood as lead is very much harmful to health. Lead is known to emerge in drinking water when plumbing materials that contain lead dissolve, mainly when the water has high acidity levels or low mineral content that dissolves pipes and fixtures.

The most common cause of lead in drinking water is the usage of lead pipes, faucets, and fixtures which are obviously used by us in our houses as well. Another most important reason is that the lead pipes through which the water travels to your house may not have been changed for a long time that can result in dissolving of lead in water and thus making it harmful to your health.

Is drinking a lot of water really important?

Yes, it’s absolutely essential and it is healthy to consume as much water you can drink. Instead of drinking soda with your meal you should make a habit of drinking water alongside your meal or after you have finished your meal. You can also give your water a refreshing taste by adding a thin slice of lemon, or even an orange peel or lime to boost your energy and feel fresh while drinking pure and clean water. Drinking more water will surely make your immune system work in a more efficient way..

What types of water purifiers are there?

There are many types of water purifiers to choose from. So, people, let’s see how many are they:

  • Pitchers and containers
  • Faucet and countertop filters
  • Under counter reverse osmosis water filters

1)  Pitchers and containers

So, this type of purifier is a gravity-fed pitcher or large dispensers that need to be filled manually. You don’t have to connect them to the plumbing. They are easy to set up and operate with no installation needed and are the absolute need for your office, home or even dormitories. Some of the pitchers have a large capacity but some are small so they filter a small amount of water only. The pitchers have a high efficiency level in order to remove contaminants from the water. They purify water that may include bacteria, heavy metals, fungi and other harmful chemicals.

They require a change of the filter after 2 to 6 months depending upon the brand that you are using.

They are very portable and can be placed anywhere plus if you have to go somewhere like tailgating or somewhere in the woods for a nice timeout then they are perfect for you. As you would be able to fill the water and filter it in a matter of minutes.

2) Faucets & countertop filters

Faucet filters are attached to the water spout whereas countertop filters are free-standing water filter units that can be placed beside the sink and attached to the faucets with the help of pipes. Both of these filters have a diverter valve that connects with the filter when you need to filter the water. They are easy to install and inexpensive. Unfortunately, they will not work with faucets which are like pull-out sprayers. They also have a limited contaminant-reduction capability.

3) Under counter reverse osmosis water filters

Under counter filters are plumbed-in systems that are linked to the cold water lines under the sink and discharge the filtered water through a small faucet rather than the main one. You can either install it at your main kitchen sink or a secondary sink. Under counter filters can come with or without Reverse Osmosis filters. They need a separate holding tank for filtered water and a connection to your waste line. For all this trouble, they give a high degree of filtration.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of water filter pitchers?

A water filter pitcher like any other product has its advantages and disadvantages.

  1. Inexpensive — for the users who are on a tight budget but want to enjoy clean and safe drinking water, this is a good solution.
  2. Portable — they are designed with such a convenient, compact size that they can even fit in a refrigerator.
  3. Easy use — you do not have to put in a lot of effort in setting up these filters.

  1. Inefficient in comparison to other filters — it is claimed that they do not have the capacity to do complete filtration. However, detailed research is needed in support of such claims.
  2. Cost adds up — you need to replace the filters time and again. Hence, the amount spent on the replacement adds up in the long run.
  3. Limited amount of water filtered — you have to fill the pitchers again and again for they have a small capacity for holding water. They also take time in filtration so you need to wait for several minutes for that.

Conclusion

With this information, you are bound to switch to water filter pitchers for a healthy life choice for your own self and your family. Who wouldn’t want cleaner, great-tasting water free of harmful contaminants!
